...where Jesus Christ is Lord!

Summer/Fall 2011

And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God.
(1 John 4:14-15, NIV)

UPDATED August 2011 (Previous update was March 2011)

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.
(Acts 4:12, NIV)

DISCLAIMER: Is it hot where you are? It's been VERY hot here in Georgia this summer...and that means trips to the pool, and staying in the air conditioning, and only occasionally keeping up with our web site! So enjoy all the news and all the photos...and I'll update again when the weather gets cooler! Like, way cooler...like, maybe December?!

Dan's Thoughts

...on a couple of special acronyms!

Stuff!

We have brand-new stuff about Dan's & Gaye's new sport of geocaching, as well as updated pages on our family target shooting adventures, Dan's guns, and Dan's sign collection.

Family

We all took a trip! In mid-March we went to Florida, in a multi-pronged vacation trip. First we visited Anne's friend Jenny and her family, who used to live in Warner Robins, but moved to Beverly Hills, Florida. We rented a boat with them for a day, and swam with the manatees! Then we took Jenny with us, and all camped at Eglin AFB and played in the Gulf of Mexico and played tourist in Destin and Fort Walton Beach. We also visited our friends Scott & Suzy, and enjoyed a walk to the beach at dusk with their family!

Do you know what "geocaching" is? Dan and Gaye have gone geocaching together several times, and have found many different things in many kinds of places! (Click here for more explanation, pictures, and stories.)

Our whole family went to see Dan's brother Robin Bullock perform at a house concert in July (which was about 40 people in a large room in Robin's promoter's house, in the woods near Macon). Robin did a great job, and it was a delight to see him, AND his wife Jodi, who came with him from Paris!

We house-sat for some friends who live in Cordele, so we could help keep their plants watered...and we enjoyed spending the night once, and going together as a family to play in their pool! (Allen and his friend David were about an even match for Dan & Gaye in water volleyball...you know what they say...old age and cunning can beat youth and skill every time! (JUST KIDDING!!!))

Gaye took Anne and Allen to a Renaissance Fair at the end of March – lots of fun, and a little bit of learning. Anne and Allen (and sometimes Gaye) have been volunteering at the Grace House, a food pantry for tho se in need in nearby Fort Valley, Georgia.

And, we bought another car! It's our third one, and is for Anne to drive to college each day (because we're blessed to have her living at home as she starts college.) To know what kind, you gotta click here to look at the photos!

Dan

Dan took a trip! He went on a weekend alone in April, camping at the Georgia Veteran's State Park on Lake Blackshear – and got some great nature photos!

He took his father flying in a Cessna 172 from the Macon airport, when Dad Bullock was here for Anne's graduation. He also took his dad (and Allen) to his favorite local firing range...an outdoor range run by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. On a different day, Dan took Gaye and her friend Jane to the same range, and Jane and Dan shared their guns with each other! Dad, Allen, Gaye, Jane, and Dan have had a great time making many .22 caliber and 9mm holes in pieces of paper...

Dan is still playing bass guitar for the church worship team, and still working as a program manager and engineer for Bering Straits Aerospace Services, at Robins AFB. He's been there a year and a half already, and he likes the job – he's hoping he'll be able to set a record! (His last job lasted 2 years and 3 months...)

Dan has been calling Gaye a cutie pie, but he likes to spell it, Q T π (Greek letter pi), because, as he says, she's 3.14 times as cute as anyone else!

Gaye

Gaye took a trip! She went for a week at the end of July to serve as a helper/chaperone with a friend's church, for a mission trip to Waterbury, Connecticut! The youth group went there to help a church in a poor area with their Vacation Bible School program. They had many adventures (from walking around downtown New York in the rain until 3 in the morning, to spending four hours with their bus broken down on the way home), and boy-oh-boy, Dan & Anne & Allen were sure glad to see Gaye come home safely!

Gaye has arranged and led a couple of "Ladies' Praise Team Reunion" jam sessions...where a large group of ladies, many of whom she doesn't get to see often any more, will gather and play and sing favorite praise music! Dan gets to play, too, because he often served as a "member" of the ladies' team when they led worship! (That's because he plays bass, and the only bass-playing ladies have other primary instruments.)

Gaye and her friend Jane went shooting together at our local outdoor range. They both like Dan's 9mm carbine...but Jane's 12-gauge shotguns did leave bruises on Gaye's shoulder...

Dan got Gaye a coffee mug for her birthday that's silly...it says, "I don't have a short attention span, it's just that...oh look, a kitty!" He also gave her a mousepad for her computer with a drawing of a cat, and the caption, "What part of 'Meow' don't you understand?"

Anne

Anne took a trip! She went – all by herself – to Arizona to visit a close friend who moved there recently. (Katie...you remember her from the houseboat trip photos from the last site update...) They had a great time together for a week in early July, visiting the Arizona Meteor Crater, the Painted Desert, and the Petrified Forest

Anne got baptized! Praise the Lord! She had never previously been baptized, and decided entirely on her own this spring to obey Jesus in this way. Our church has a beach baptism every summer, so Anne, with about 6 others, signed up for it. Most of us in the church went to Tybee Island, on the Georgia Atlantic coast, set up our beach chairs and towels, and Pastor Steve did the total-immersion thing with each baptizee!

She's been beating Dan in chess lately. She also will occasionally deliberately mix metaphors, like her favorite, "a rolling bird gathers no worm..."

Anne celebrated her 18th birthday in May, so we took her to an upscale mall (to shop, of course), and told her how proud we are of her and how this is a significant milestone over dinner at a fine restaurant in Macon. Anne also graduated from high school in May, and several family members made the trip to Georgia to celebrate with her – Dan's mom & dad, Gaye's mom, and Gaye's brother Leigh & his wife Miki. There was a very nice ceremony at a local church, after which Anne's whole entourage went out to dinner...then the next day we went to an outdoor cookout with all the graduates.

And now a whole new chapter has begun, as she started freshman classes at Macon State College!

Allen

Allen hasn't taken a trip by himself recently – but he's planning to in October, when he'll go with friends and their family to Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida! He's been saving up for it for a long time...

He's driving now! Allen got his learner's permit in July, and is rapidly improving as he practices driving with Dad. He enjoys it...though he keeps asking "When do I get to go faster?" He has also been working for a friend, making a little money mowing lawns.

Allen got to join Dan in several shooting opportunities, including a "shooting party" in the back yard of our friends, Steve & Susan. He sure enjoys getting to shoot the stuff with lots of recoil! He and Dan are looking forward to trying out a monthly pistol competition, held near Macon, starting in September.

He and Dad are still going string at the church's weekly cleaning ministry...we volunteer one hour a week, and get together with others of the church and sweep, mop, scrub, empty trash, etc. Allen has become the recognized expert in sweeping and mopping – and does it faster than anyone else!

He's been beating Dan in chess lately, too. He has taken to saying, when cheering or approving of something, "Huzzah!" (an archaic British version of "hooray")...like when he wins at chess...

Prayer Requests

Please pray for our sanity, as we raise a couple of perfectly normal teenagers, and see one of them off to college.

Please pray, in this time of uncertainty and volatility throughout the world, that God's will be done, and that many will turn to him, put their faith in Jesus, and be saved. It sure looks to us like the end times may be upon us...are you ready?

About our Site

Dan likes this web site format, and it seems to work o.k. It's based on a template we got free from someone else (hence the attribution at the bottom of the page), and modified to our liking, as permitted under his terms of use. Dan, as much as he likes hand-coding (yeah, right) couldn't do something this nice by himself.

The artistic photo pages, however, are still entirely Dan's design, for now at least, so maybe he hasn't totally abandoned the craft of manually writing web pages...

The "NIV" in our Scripture quotes stands for New International Version. The copyright requires that notation, as well as the following statement: "Scripture quoted from the Holy Bible, New International Version (R). Copyright 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society. Used by permission of International Bible Society."

Similarly, "NKJV" stands for New King James Version, and its use requires acknowledgment as follows: "Scripture taken from the New King James Version. Copyright 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc. Used by permission. All rights reserved."

KJV, of course, means King James Version, which, having been written in 1611, is public domain.

(Hey, I thought of putting in a FAQ section -- you know, Frequently Asked Questions -- but no one ever asks any questions about the site!)
